Beverage of choice: A comment on coffee
in celebration of issue 01 [coffee ice cream]
Coffee has always been something I associated powerful, determined adults with. It’s glamorized in film and tv, celebrities only coming out of their private getaways for a brewed beverage at a sweet cafe with their not-so-secret romance.
In Gilmore Girls, it's a state of being, a mantra for Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Don’t talk to the girls until they have had their coffee! It brought them together, pulled them through life-changing exams, all nighters, big big changes.
At its core, it is just a drink, but the energy it gives us transcends [the physical experience] and can be related to by millions. As I begin this journey into early adulthood, after years of watching my peers drink and perform the morning preparatory ritual, it gives me a sense of connection with them; the working girl, the go-getter.
How many other people do you think are drinking it as you read this right now?? And how beautifully unique each flavor and blend is.
How each drink is poured into their own unique cups, maybe yours is gifted from your grandma, maybe it has cute kitties on it! Mayhaps you drink out of a teacup like a princess. You might keep it in a metal jug, for convenience.
Coffee definitely brings us together. As many of us may have seen the classic one liner, “Let’s go for coffee?”
The beverage is only a metaphor here. The asker really wants to get to know you. It could be an invitation for debate, having a meeting, conjuring up a plan, or maybe romance. It’s a beautiful thing.
Why don’t you have a cup! ☕
